History of the department

In 1955 on the basis of the Department of Optional Surgery of SEI “Avicenna TSMU” 15 neurosurgical beds began to function for the first time in Tajikistan under the guidance of the Honored Doctor of the Republic, the first neurosurgeon scientist Z.P. Khojaev. Z.P. Khojaev involved in this work such doctors as I.I. Lipattsev, M.K. Maksumova, S.G. Papaldupova, L.B. Sergeev, E.I. Dedunov, I.Yu. Dansky, R.N. Narzulloev, A.V. Vokhidov, R.M. Murodov, S.D. Shamsiev. Training was carried out at research institutes of neurosurgery of Moscow, Leningrad and Kiev. Over time, the neurosurgery service has made progress.

In 1968, in Dushanbe as a part of the RCH named after A.M. Diakov, then in Khujand (Leninabad, 1973) in the City Clinical Hospital 40 beds, in Bokhtar and Kurgan Tube (1995) in the City Hospital - 30 beds, in Kulyab (1995) 20 beds were opened specialized neurosurgical departments.

As well as part of the Departments of General Surgery and Traumatology of the district hospitals of Panjakent, Istravshan, B.Gafurov, Isfara, Nau, Hisor, Asht, Tursunzoda, Yovon, Vahdat, Norak and Rasht were opened and functioned the departments of neurosurgery in the amount of 7 to 20 beds.

In 1976, an independent neurosurgery course was organized on the basis of the neurosurgery department of the RCH named after A.M. Diakov. The primary tasks of the course were: training of neurosurgical doctors and neurosurgical units in the Republic. The neurosurgery base expanded in 1986 with the opening of a 30-bed child neurosurgery unit at RCH named after A.M. Diakov. The neurosurgery course operated under the direction of I.I. Lipatsev until 2000.

From 2000 to 2012 Head of the Department of Neurosurgery was Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor A. Chobulov. From 2012 till present the department is headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor R.N.Berdiev.

In 2003, on the basis of the neurosurgery course the Department of Neurosurgery of Avicenna TSMU was established.

On the basis of the Decision of the academic council of the University from 28.01.2016 , № 6 taking into account changes and additions in the curriculum and the program the department of neurosurgery was renamed into department of neurosurgery and the mixed injuries.

At present, the department is headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor R.N.Berdiev. At the Department of Neurosurgery, 2 Doctors of Medical Sciences (Berdiev R.N.), 5 Candidates of Medical Sciences (M.N.Bobojonov, Kh.J.Rakhmonov, E.S.Husainov, Sh.A.Turdiboev, I.Habibov) and assistant R. Sadiev are working.
