History of department


The Children’s diseases department of medical faculty was organized in September 1941 and the first head of department was professor S.Y. Shafershtain (1941-1945), who had a big pedagogical and scientific-research experience in pediatrics. The first assistants of department were G.E. Levina, N.A. Andreeva and N.P. Opekunova.
The Children’s clinical hospital №1 served as clinical base for the department. The scientific researches of the department were devoted to the study of malaria, chronical disorders of nutrition, vitamin deficiency and rachitis. For the first time the community of pediatricians was organized by professor S.Y. Shafershtain in Tajikistan. He was a chairman in this community and his secretary was assistant G.E. Levina.
From 1945 to 1953, the head of department was professor S.F. Shirokov. Scientific research of the department was directed to learn the cause of high morbidity and mortality among children of early childhood, chronical disorders of nutrition, malaria, intestinal infections, and pneumonia. In that period (1947), S.F. Shirokov defensed the doctoral dissertation on the topic: “Clinical peculiarities of malaria in children, and his docent G.E. Levina defensed (1953) of candidate dissertation on the topic: “Comatose malaria in children”.
From 1953 to 1963, the head of Children’s disease department of medical faculty was professor V.S. Vail, honored worker of science. The first republic subordination and clinical residency in pediatrics, which contributed to the improvement the quality and quantity of pediatric staffs were organized by professor V.S. Vail in 1954. He published approximately 80 articles, including monography: “One of the founder in scientific pediatrics N.P. Gundobin”. Under his leadership was prepared a large group of teachers and managers of children institutions: S.M. Kabulova, A.M. Mirakilova, M.M. Yakubova, N.P. Preobrajenskaya, O.V. Perevozchikova, M.Sh. Muhamadieva, L.V. Vail, R.E. Bronshtain etc.
From 1963 to 1984 the Children’s disease department of medical faculty was headed by professor M.M. Yakubova. Under her leadership, the collective of department was involved in learning glomerulonephritis and pyelonephritis in children. In 1972, M.M. Yakubova defensed doctoral dissertation on the topic: “Etiology, pathogenesis and diagnosis of glomerulonephritis in children of Tajikistan”. She trained a large group of scientific-pedagogical staffs, like: O.V. Perevozchikova, R.I. Raupova, R.Z. Gabitova, V.M. Koloskova, I.I. Guberman, F.A. Izmaylova etc.
From 1984 to 1987, the head of department was docent O.V. Perevozchikova, and from 1988 to 1995 professor A.R. Raupov was the head the department. Under his leadership, the staff of department continued to study on kidney diseases in children, and the candidate L.N. Babaeva defensed her candidate dissertation.
From 1996 to 2002 professor S.M. Kabulova headed the pediatric and medical faculty. From 1969 to 1974 she had head of propaedeutic of children’s diseases department. From 1974 to 2002 she headed of hospital pediatrics department, and at the same time from 1995 to 1999 she headed the Children’s disease department of medical faculty. In 1968, S.M. Kabulova defensed candidate dissertation on the topic: “Features of the course of glomerulonephritis in early childhood children in condition of dry and torrid climate of Tajikistan”, and 1981 – doctoral dissertation on the topic: “Features of the course of staphylococcal infection in early childhood children in condition of dry and torrid climate of Tajikistan”. She is member of an editorial board in journals “Healthcare of Tajikistan” and “Pediatrics”. From 1984 to 2002 – Kabulova was chairman of Pediatrics Society of the Republic Tajikistan. She published 217 scientific works on relevant problems in pediatrics. Under her leadership, edited 8 thematically work collection of department about purulent-septic infection in children, published 7 methodological recommendations the same topic for practical doctors, and performed 6 rationalized recommendations and 25 implementations. Moreover, she published 14 methodological developments and methodological tutorial on neonatology field for the students of medical university.
Under the leadership of S.M. Kabulova were defensed 5 candidate dissertations (Sh. G. Otabekova, G.S. Mamadjanova, A.G. Nesterenko, T.F. Golubih, H.Dj. Aminov).

Since 1995, before the liquidation of the medical faculty the Department of Child illnesses was headed by professor Kabulova, who at the same time headed the department of Child illnesses until 2011 due to reorganization of the pediatric departments with the formation of the GMF.
From 2001 to 2003, the acting head of Children’s diseases department №1 was docent H.Dj. Aminov.
From 2003 to 2008, the head of Children’s diseases department №1 was d.m.s., prof. Z.H. Yakubova.
From September 2008 to 2015 was elected d.m.s. H.Dj. Aminov.
From 2015 to 2016, the head of Children’s diseases department №1 was d.m.s., prof. D.S. Dodkhoev.
From 2017 till present, the head of department is c.m.s, docent G.S. Mamadjanova.
