The national dress serves as a representation of the nation on the global stage
The national dress serves as a cornerstone of the nation's cultural identity, representing a relic of the past that has retained its beauty throughout the centuries.
In a recent address to the women of the Republic, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan and Honorable Leader of the Nation, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon emphasized the importance of national identity and values: "We must cherish our language and culture, our national traditions, and our traditional dress. Dear mothers and sisters, observe how vibrant and exquisite our national garments are. Furthermore, we Tajiks are a beautiful people, and our national clothing enhances that beauty. We must reject xenophobia!"
Regrettably, some young people in various countries, including Tajikistan, have adopted attire that does not reflect Tajik culture, engaging in xenophobia that undermines their cultural heritage.
The Tajik nation boasts an ancient history and a rich cultural heritage. Historical evidence indicates that Tajik women and mothers have consistently served as the guardians of the sacred customs and traditions of their people and nation. A prominent emblem of cultural identity across various nations is their national dress. In the context of Tajik national attire, the image of women adorned in distinctive clothing is particularly evocative.
The exquisite Sogdian satin and silk, the floral embroidery of Khatlon, the unique designs from the Rasht region, the alacha textiles of the Hisar Valley, and the vibrant colors of Badakhshan shirts and socks captivate all who behold them. Our national dress is not only a symbol of cultural pride within Tajikistan but also represents the nation on the global stage.
The kurta, a traditional shirt with a history spanning over a millennium, is predominantly observed in the southern regions of Tajikistan. This garment is typically worn by girls during national celebrations, especially during Navruz.
In the Republic of Tajikistan, the Government continuously supports the organization of the republican festival "Jilvai Chakan-Handai Hosn." This event aims to promote national customs, traditions, and the cultural heritage of our ancestors. It seeks to enhance self-awareness, foster national pride, and cultivate patriotism while expressing gratitude for the unity, security, and stability of the nation.
The national dress serves as a representation of the Tajik people, symbolizing cultural identity and functioning as a cornerstone of any civilization. It is imperative for us, particularly the youth, to safeguard our national culture, adhere to the traditions that have endured for thousands of years, and advocate for our national dress both domestically and internationally. Additionally, we should promote the beauty and development of folk arts.
