THE NATIONAL ARMY IS A STEADFAST GUARDIAN OF THE HOMELAND

Independence is regarded as the most significant and remarkable achievement - a priceless gift to our cherished nation. Following the collapse of the Soviet Union, despite the country's entanglement in a complex military and political crisis, as well as internal conflicts, Tajikistan and its resilient people successfully attained their long-awaited independence. This sovereignty has granted us a national flag, state emblem, national anthem, national army, border troops, national currency, and full membership in the United Nations, along with participation in numerous influential international organizations. The unparalleled attainment of independence has also facilitated the establishment of our own armed forces within our beloved homeland.

On December 18, 1992, the Chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon signed the decree "On the Establishment of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Tajikistan." The Armed Forces were formed based on the Popular Front and other forces that supported the constitutional government. On February 23, 1993, the first military parade was held in the capital, Dushanbe and this date was officially designated as the founding day of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Tajikistan. Despite significant economic and financial challenges, from the early stages of the Armed Forces' establishment, the government prioritized the reconstruction of military infrastructure and the formation of specialized units. Alongside equipping these units with modern technology, efforts were undertaken to train highly qualified military personnel. Although initially lacking a robust material and technical base, the national army gained valuable experience during the challenging years of internal conflict and acquired critical lessons in warfare. Through sustained efforts by the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, the National Army gradually strengthened, becoming more stable, better equipped with modern technology, and evolving into a formidable force with advanced capabilities.

The National Army of the Republic of Tajikistan, guided by unwavering will and determination, successfully overcomes all challenges and adversities it faces. Over time, it has undergone systematic formation, equipping, and armament. Today, the National Army is recognized as a resilient, battle-hardened, courageous, and patriotic force, serving as one of the nation's sacred institutions and a vital pillar of national statehood.

Through the dedicated efforts of the Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, and Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, the National Army continues to develop and strengthen. In this context, February 23, designated by the Law of the Republic of Tajikistan “On Holidays” as the official day of the Armed Forces' establishment, is celebrated annually as a national holiday.

For 32 years, the National Army has endured challenging times, overcoming severe trials and evolving into a formidable military force. Today, it stands as a steadfast defender of peace and stability, ensuring a secure and prosperous environment for the nation. Continuously developing and strengthening its capabilities, the army remains committed to the reliable defense of our homeland’s borders and territory.
