TAJIKISTAN'S INDEPENDENCE DAY: SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPORTANCE OF THE CELEBRATION

Each year on September 9th, Tajikistan commemorates one of its most significant national holidays - State Independence Day. On this day in 1991, during a session of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Declaration of State Independence and the Resolution 'On the Proclamation of State Independence of the Republic of Tajikistan' were adopted. This marked the emergence of Tajikistan as a sovereign state on the global political stage. Traditionally, the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon addresses the nation with a congratulatory message, delivering a formal speech that reflects on the country’s annual progress. On this day, he also receives well-wishes from CIS leaders and bestows honorary medals and titles to distinguished individuals across various fields. September 9 is a national holiday in Tajikistan. 'Independence and freedom represent for us the true embodiment of national pride and patriotism, the cornerstone of statehood and nation-building, the driving force behind our creative efforts for development, national prosperity, peace, and the improvement of living standards for every family,' emphasized the President.

Various social and political events are held across the country. The capital, Dushanbe, serves as the focal point of official celebrations. On significant anniversaries, a military parade is conducted in the central Dusti square, followed by a formal civilian procession featuring workers, students, and schoolchildren along Rudaki Avenue. In the evening, a large-scale theatrical performance commemorating the formation of Tajik statehood is held, concluding with a celebratory fireworks display. In other cities and districts throughout Tajikistan, residents observe Independence Day with public festivities in parks and recreational areas. Music fills the air, with performances by popular artists and creative groups, while concerts and theatrical productions are organized.
