Tourism is recognized as one of the most lucrative sectors of the world economy and an economic phenomenon of the XXI century. In most countries, tourism plays an important role in the formation of foreign trade balance, employment and job creation, as well as the development of various sectors, such as transport and communications, construction, culture, arts, consumer goods and others sectors of the economy.

The Republic of Tajikistan also has a rich historical and cultural heritage and natural resources, and has a real potential to attract a large number of foreign tourists to the country. The Government of the Republic of Tajikistan pays special attention to the tourism sector and creates the necessary conditions for its further development.

In the framework of the adopted state programs, the development of the sector is ensured by the introduction of the electronic visa system for foreign tourists, the establishment of tourist zones and the provision of the necessary infrastructure. At present, Tajikistan has introduced a simplified visa system for citizens of more than 78 countries. As a result, the number of tourists has steadily increased over the past three years, doubling (from 207 to 414 thousand people).

Our heavenly Tajikistan is a land of enlightened and hospitable people and a land of juicy fruits is a journey. In order to further enhance the tourism sector, effective use of existing opportunities in this area, development of tourism infrastructure, improving the quality of services, expanding the process of state regulation and support of domestic and foreign tourism, attracting more investment in this area and training talented personnel in 2017 The Committee for Tourism Development under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan has been established.

The Government, together with relevant ministries and agencies and local authorities, in order to further develop the sector and expand the use of existing opportunities, develop tourism infrastructure, improve the quality of services, expand the process of state regulation and support of tourism, attract more investment ensuring the coordination of the activities of all relevant structures and agencies and the training of qualified personnel in this area.

At the same time, in the list of global competitiveness in the field of tourism, presented by the World Economic Forum in 2017, Tajikistan ranked 107th out of 136 possible places. It is noteworthy that the Republic of Tajikistan is singled out in the list of countries that have shown the best leap in tourism during the year. The Republic of Tajikistan took the third place in this list. In the first place are Japan and in second place are Azerbaijan.
