STIGMA AND DISCRIMINATION IN THE CONTEXT OF TUBERCULOSIS AND HIV

"Would you buy products from a person living with HIV or TB/HIV?" — this is how the presentation by Nozanin Haknazarova, a fifth-year student of Group 46 at the Faculty of Medicine, began before her classmates from Groups 42-46. Her short yet striking presentation amazed even the department's assistants with its depth of thought, her attitude as a future doctor toward patients' rights, and her advocacy for respecting the human right to health.

Issues related to society's attitudes toward people living with HIV or co-infections of HIV and TB have profound social implications. In her presentation, Nozanin Haknazarova emphasized the need to overcome stigma to improve the quality of life for patients and facilitate their access to medical and social services.

Other participants, such as Manuchehr Rioev and Farrukh Kurbonalizoda, presented data on the global and regional prevalence of HIV and TB. They highlighted the issue's relevance in Tajikistan, where co-infections of HIV and TB pose a significant public health threat. Students discussed how violations of human rights, stigma, and discrimination hinder access to timely diagnosis and treatment.

Farzona Muminova’s presentation focused on the importance of early prevention and integration of services for patients with HIV and TB. Measures aimed at early detection, treatment, and prevention of the spread of infections were examined.

Such discussions help form not only professional attitudes toward patient care but also ethical awareness of human rights within the healthcare system. These events foster tolerance among students and enhance their readiness to combat stigma and discrimination in their future practices. Consequently, the scientific student society of the Department of Phthisiopulmonology at Avicenna Tajik State Medical University contributes to the promotion of patients' rights.
