Independence is the principal wealth of any state. On 9 September, Tajikistan celebrates one of its main national holidays - the 35th anniversary of State Independence. By tradition, the first congratulations came from the Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon.

The independence of Tajikistan was proclaimed on 9 September 1991 at an extraordinary session of the Supreme Council. The young republic then had to endure five years of civil confrontation, which resulted in the collapse of the economy, 150,000 lives lost and more than a million refugees. To resolve the conflict and unite the people, the republic needed a strong leader. That leader was Emomali Rahmon, who immediately set a course for reform. With his coming, the country gradually began to revive and rebuild. This date became an important historical milestone, symbolizing sovereignty, peace, stability and the beginning of a new stage in the development of national statehood.

Over the past 35 years of independence, Tajikistan has travelled a difficult but worthy path of building and strengthening its statehood. This period has been marked by serious trials, important historic decisions and significant achievements, made possible by the wisdom of the people, the unity of society and a consistent state policy.

The celebration of the 35th anniversary of the State Independence of the Republic is not only an occasion for festivities, but also an opportunity to reflect on the path travelled, to give an objective assessment of the results achieved and to define new benchmarks for further development. The 35th anniversary symbolizes the maturity of national statehood, the strengthening of political stability and the country’s confident progress towards new achievements.

Over the 35 years of State Independence, Tajikistan has achieved considerable success in various spheres of life. Large-scale projects are being consistently implemented in energy, transport, industry, agriculture, education, healthcare, science and social infrastructure. Of particular importance is the implementation of major hydropower projects, including the construction of the Rogun Hydroelectric Power Plant, which is a symbol of the country’s energy independence and a crucial factor in its economic development. New schools, roads, medical facilities and other social facilities are being built. Independence has made it possible to actively develop the national culture and to preserve the historical heritage, traditions and the state language. On the international stage, Tajikistan advocates peace, stability and cooperation, and takes an active part in addressing global issues related to water, climate and the preservation of glaciers. Tajikistan is developing with confidence, strengthening its international ties, improving state institutions and implementing long-term national programs.

Under the leadership of the Leader of the Nation, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, a policy is being consistently pursued that is aimed at ensuring sustainable development, raising the well-being of the population and strengthening national unity. Today Tajikistan is moving confidently towards four strategic goals - energy independence, an end to transport isolation, food security and the industrialization of the country.

The 35th anniversary of State Independence is a symbol of national pride, historical memory and responsibility to future generations, as well as an occasion to express gratitude to all those who have contributed to strengthening peace and to the development of the economy, science, culture and education.

Today the country faces new tasks - further strengthening the economy, improving the quality of education, creating new opportunities for young people, developing science and technology, and raising the standard of living of the population. Tajikistan strives for a high standard of living for its people, for a prosperous economy based on modern technologies, and for building relations of equality in its foreign policy.
