PRESS CONFERENCE ON THE ACTIVITIES OF AVICENNA TAJIK STATE MEDICAL UNIVERSITY DURING THE FIRST HALF OF THE 2024 YEAR

On August 7, 2024, a press conference was held in the hall of Avicenna Tajik State Medical University to discuss the university's activities during the first half of the 2024 year. The event was attended by 70 journalists from various media outlets.

During the press conference, the rector of the University, d.m.s., professor Gulzoda Mahmadshoh Qurbonali, provided an in-depth overview of the University’s achievements and activities for the first half of the 2024 year, he emphasized that “Avicenna Tajik State Medical University, as an internationally recognized institution, continues to fulfil its core mission of training healthcare professionals, thereby playing a significant role in safeguarding the health of the nation”.

During the speech, it was highlighted that Avicenna Tajik State Medical University plays a key role in training specialists, not only to meet the country's needs in the medical field but also for foreign nations. The University has graduated students from 11 different countries, demonstrating the international competitiveness of Tajikistan's education system.

It was also mentioned that the university offers advanced postgraduate training through internship and clinical residency programs, spanning 40 specialties. In the 2023-2024 academic year, 266 individuals completed clinical residency and certification, with their professional competence positively evaluated by the Commission of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Republic of Tajikistan. Additionally, 201 individuals completed internships and received qualification diplomas. The University administration has developed a state standard for clinical residency, aligning its educational system with international standards.

During the speech, it was highlighted that Avicenna Tajik State Medical University trains specialists not only to implement the national plan for medical training but also for international needs. The university has seen graduates from 11 different countries, demonstrating the international competitiveness of Tajikistan's education system.

In addition to undergraduate programs, the university offers postgraduate training through internship and clinical residency programs across 40 specialities. For the 2023-2024 academic year, 266 individuals completed clinical residency and certification. The clinical residents were evaluated by a commission from the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Republic of Tajikistan, which gave positive feedback on their professional competence. Additionally, 201 individuals completed internships and received qualification diplomas.

The university administration has also developed a state standard for clinical residency, aligning the education system with international standards.

During the speech by the rector of the university d.m.s., professor Gulzoda Mahmadshoh Qurbonali it was noted that the university has successfully passed state certification. The university has established a strong foundation for training competent specialists in clinical research. To support this, modern testing devices have been acquired for the Institute of Fundamental Medicine.

Additionally, to enhance the quality of education in medical psychology, the university has signed cooperation agreements with the Volga Region Research Medical University (Russia) and Sheraz Medical University (Islamic Republic of Iran). These agreements facilitate academic exchanges, internships, and joint training programs aimed at developing specialists in new educational areas.

To further strengthen international cooperation and advance joint scientific projects, the university has entered into six agreements with prestigious institutions in the Russian Federation, Germany, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan.

Rector of the University d.m.s., professor Gulzoda Mahmadshoh Qurbonali remarked during the press session that “In the first half of the 2024 year, 22 scientific dissertations were successfully defended in the University’s dissertation councils. Additionally, 29 faculty members are currently in the process of defending their theses. We take great pride in the fact that during this period, the Higher Attestation Commission under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan has conferred the title of professor upon three of our scientists and the title of associate professor upon 30 individuals”.

The University's leadership prioritizes the scientific and creative pursuits of its faculty, the improvement of their professional capabilities, and the integration of global scientific advancements into the educational structure. The goal is to elevate the medical university into a leading hub for scientific research and innovation in healthcare within the region soon.
