“NAVRUZ” IS OFFICIALLY DOCUMENTED IN THE UNESCO REGISTRY

«Navruz is an expression of our people's historical thinking, spiritual image, moral vision, dreams, customs, worldview and outlook and has preserved our cultural and national values throughout its existence».

Emomali Rahmon

The issue of globalization of "Navruz" took place on the initiative of Tajikistan and a number of Navruz basin countries back in 2010. At the same time, in accordance with the provisions of the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage, "Navruz" has been registered in the UNESCO Representative Register. The nomination "Navruz" was first registered in the UNESCO Representative Register in 2009, when Tajikistan was not yet a party to this Convention. However, representatives of Tajikistan participated in meetings and the development of its documents. Finally, after requests and efforts, UNESCO allowed other countries of the Navruz basin to join the nomination. In February 2015 in Tehran a workshop of specialists on intangible culture from the Navruz Basin countries was held, in which representatives of Tajikistan also took part. Within 4 days experts from 12 countries (Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Iraq and Turkmenistan were added) prepared a full and final version of the nomination in English, it was signed by the official representatives and the documents were sent to UNESCO. Thus, the Navruz nomination was submitted together with the Navruz basin countries: Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Iran, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Pakistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and India.

In the development and translation of documents related to the nominations "Oshi Palov" and "Navruz," the contribution of researchers of the Institute of Research-Scientific Culture and Information of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Tajikistan, headed by the famous Tajik scientist Dilshod Rahimov is very significant. Since 2013, under his leadership, the group "The Legacy of Intangible Culture" has been working at the Research Institute. In this group N. Klicheva, A. Aminov and Z. Kholmurodov also participated in the preparation of these nominations and Chakan - art of Tajik embroidery”.

These and other measures implemented in the direction of studying and protecting the intangible cultural heritage of the Tajik people certainly contribute to the recognition, respect, popularization and presentation of samples of national culture inside and outside the country.
