Meeting with WHO experts on malaria elimination and certification in the Republic of Tajikistan

October 18 of this year, a meeting with WHO experts on elimination and certification of malaria in the Republic of Tajikistan was held at the Avicenna Tajik State Medical University. The delegation from the WHO Regional Office for Tajikistan consisted of professor Fred Binka, expert, professor Pedro Alonso, expert Linhua Tan, as well as Boimatova Khadicha, WHO representative. From the State Educational Institution "Avicenna Tajik State Medical University" at the meeting were : Vice-Rector on medical part K.K. Qobilov, Vice-Rector on science and innovations J.K. Mukhabbatzoda, Head of Rector's service Nosiri Kahor, Senior Specialist of International Department Kh.N. Egamnazarov, as well as specialist of Educational-Methodological Department Faiziev R.H. The main purpose of the meeting was to provide assistance and support to WHO Regional Office in the Republic of Tajikistan, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of Population of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Center for Combating Tropical Diseases and other relevant departments and institutions to address the elimination and certification of malaria in the Republic of Tajikistan. It should be noted that Tajikistan has made significant progress in prevention and control of malaria. As a result of tremendous work since 2015, the Republic has achieved a break in local transmission of malaria throughout the country malaria has been eliminated in Tajikistan. Currently, the country is completing the process of preparing for certification of malaria elimination. According to WHO recommendations, a National Malaria Certification Committee has been established under the leadership of the health sector and with the participation of various sectors, the required package of documents and the National Report on malaria elimination in Tajikistan have been prepared. To date, Tajikistan has made a political decision to start the process of certification of Tajikistan as a malaria-free country. In this regard, during the meeting it was agreed that "Avicenna Tajik State Medical University" will contribute to strengthening research capacity by conducting relevant research work in the field of malaria and improve the knowledge of students and faculty through the introduction of appropriate thematic approaches in "Avicenna Tajik State Medical University".
