June 1 - International children's protection day

International Children's Day is celebrated annually in more than 30 countries and is one of the oldest international holidays. The decision to celebrate it was made in 1925 at the World Conference in Geneva, dedicated to the welfare of children. The first Children's Day was held in 1950 in 51 countries of the world. The UN supported this initiative and declared the protection of children's rights, life and health as one of its priorities.

The main goal of Children's Day is to focus public attention on real children's problems. This idea is directly present in the name of the holiday.

All children's rights and freedoms are reflected in the Declaration of the Rights of the Child, which was adopted by the UN General Assembly in 1959. It proclaims equal rights of children in the field of upbringing, education, social security, physical and spiritual development regardless of skin color, nationality, social origin, property status and others. The Declaration calls on parents, public organizations and governments to recognize children's rights and promote their implementation.

History is silent as to why it was decided to celebrate this children's holiday on June 1. According to one version, in 1925, the Chinese Consul General in San Francisco gathered a group of Chinese orphans and organized for them a celebration of Duan-wu jie (Dragon Boat Festival), the date of which fell on June 1. As luck would have it, this day also coincided with the time of the “children's” conference in Geneva.

After the end of the Second World War, when the problems of preserving the health and well-being of children were more urgent than ever, in 1949 in Paris a congress of women was held, at which an oath was sounded about the struggle to ensure lasting peace as the only guarantee of children's happiness. And in the same year at the Moscow session of the Council of the International Democratic Federation of Women in accordance with the decisions of its 2nd Congress was established today's holiday. And a year later, in 1950, the first International Children's Day was held on June 1, after which this holiday is held annually.

International Children's Day has a flag. On a green background symbolizing growth, harmony, freshness and fertility, stylized figures - red, yellow, blue, white and black - are placed around the Earth sign. These human figures symbolize diversity and tolerance. The Earth sign placed in the center is a symbol of our common home.

Traditions for June 1 - Children's protection day

June 1 is Children's Day, on this day various entertaining events are organized for children. Charity events all over the world are aimed at improving the lives of children. They raise funds to help lonely children all over the world, to help them get at least a little of what they were deprived of at birth or during the years of their, not yet long, life. After all, every child has a legal right to a happy childhood and this right is the same for all children. It is necessary to show your own child how much his parents love him, it is even more important to tell him that not all children live happily, and together with him to take part in some charitable action, to give clothes, books and toys to an orphanage. And, most importantly, you need to teach your own child not only to be happy, but also to make happy those who are around.

Children rely on us, they trust us completely, they need us and cannot live without us. Let's not disappoint their childhood hopes, and help them to be happier and more loved.
