INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC EXPEDITION CONTINUES ITS WORK IN THE GORNO-BADAKHSHAN AUTONOMOUS REGION

The international scientific research expedition in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) is continuing its fieldwork. As part of the study, researchers have collected data on blood microcirculation and oxidative metabolism indicators, as well as blood samples for the assessment of circulating desquamated endothelial cells. The examinations have been conducted among both apparently healthy residents and patients with cardiovascular diseases living in the Murghab District at an altitude of 3,600 meters above sea level.

The research is being carried out by F.A. Shukurov, Candidate of Medical Sciences, S. Navruzbekova, Research Fellow at the Department of Stem Cells, and H. Maripov, Research Fellow at the Department of Microcirculation and Endothelium.

The primary objective of the expedition is to conduct a comprehensive investigation of the characteristics of blood microcirculation and the functional state of the vascular endothelium in residents of high-altitude regions. The study also aims to elucidate the mechanisms of physiological adaptation to chronic high-altitude hypoxia and to identify the factors associated with the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases.

The findings are expected to broaden current scientific understanding of the effects of high-altitude environments on the human cardiovascular system, provide a foundation for the implementation of new international collaborative research projects, and further strengthen scientific cooperation. The data obtained may also contribute to the development of modern approaches to the prevention, early diagnosis, and personalized treatment of cardiovascular diseases among populations living in high-altitude regions.

The research team expresses its sincere gratitude to the Health Department of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region, as well as to the chief physicians of the district hospitals of GBAO, for their invaluable support and comprehensive assistance in organizing and conducting the scientific research.
