HUMAN RIGHTS IN THE CONTEXT OF ACCESS TO TUBERCULOSIS AND HIV SERVICES

Human rights in the context of access to tuberculosis (TB) and HIV services are a critical aspect of the global fight against these diseases. On December 4, 2024, the Department of phthisiopulmonology of the Avicenna Tajik State Medical University held a discussion on current issues related to ensuring equal access to healthcare services for those in need.

During the event, 6th group students from the 5th year of the pediatric faculty actively participated in debates dedicated to World AIDS Day 2024 under the theme “Take the rights path: My health, my right!”. The main focus of the discussion was recognizing the need to protect patients' rights to quality diagnostics, treatment, and prevention while eliminating barriers that hinder the realization of these rights.

The discussions touched on two key aspects:

1.     Stigma and Discrimination: Participants noted that patients with HIV and TB often face biased attitudes, making it harder for them to access necessary care.

2.     Social and Economic Barriers: Issues related to poverty, insufficient awareness, and geographic remoteness of healthcare facilities require a systematic approach to address them, were discussed with future medical specialists.

Students demonstrated a deep interest in developing new approaches to protecting human rights in healthcare and preventing infectious diseases. The discussions concluded with a call to further eradicate barriers to universal health access and promote patients' rights to health as an integral part of modern medicine
