Emomali Rahmon invited participants “Voice of the Global South” Summit to attend the International Conference on Glacier Conservation in Dushanbe

The international community has expressed concern regarding the accelerated melting of glaciers and the consequent reduction in water resources. In the past few decades, over one thousand of the thirteen thousand glaciers in our country have completely disappeared. This was highlighted by the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, during his online address at the Third Voice of the Global South Summit, titled “Empowering the Global South for a Sustainable Future”.

This comes at a time when Tajikistan's glaciers constitute the primary source of up to 60 percent of the water resources in the Central Asian region. Consequently, Tajikistan's initiative to designate 2025 as the “International Year of Glacier Conservation” has garnered widespread support, as remarked Emomali Rahmon, noting that starting next year, March 21 will be commemorated annually as “World Glacier Day”.

Moreover, in accordance with this resolution, Tajikistan will convene a high-level international conference on glacier conservation in 2025, to which the President of the Republic of Tajikistan extended an invitation to all Summit participants.
