Dushanbe hosted a conference entitled “Leadership and Participation of Persons with Disabilities in Building an Inclusive, Accessible and Sustainable World after COVID-19”.

The conference was dedicated to the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

It was attended by the Head of the Department of Constitutional Guarantees and Human Rights of the Presidential Executive Office Zafar Safaralizoda, Deputy Minister of Health and Social Protection of the Population Shodikhon Jamshed, UN Resident Coordinator in Tajikistan Sezin Sinanoglu, UNDP Resident Representative in Tajikistan Pratibha Mehta, representatives of a number of ministries and departments, committees, heads of organizations and associations of persons with disabilities.

The purpose of this event is to once again review and determine the implementation of the National Action Plan, as well as to draw the attention of the public and government agencies to the situation of people with disabilities.

It should be noted that the issues of social protection of the population, especially the disabled are one of the important and priority areas of the policy pursued by the President. Under the leadership of the President Emomali Rahmon, effective and constructive measures are regularly taken to support vulnerable segments of the population.

The normative legal bases for social protection of persons with disabilities are implemented in accordance with the Constitution of Tajikistan, the Health Code, the Labor Code, the laws “On insurance and state pensions,” “On the social protection of the disabled,” “On social services,” “On veterans,” the country’s strategic documents such as “National Development Strategy for the period up to 2030,” “Social Services Development Concept” and other regulations. There is also a Coordinating Council for Health and Social Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.

Also, Tajikistan, as a member of the international community, recognizes international documents on the rights of persons with disabilities and their social security, and concrete measures are taken to ensure the protection of the rights and interests of persons with disabilities.
