CLINICAL CONFERENCE AT THE DEPARTMENT OF PROPEDEUTICS OF CHILDREN’S DISEASES

At the department of propaedeutics of children’s diseases of the Avicenna Tajik State Medical University, the department's staff, in collaboration with physicians from the 7th pediatric somatic unit of the State Institution Medical Complex “Istiqlol” organized a clinical conference on the topic “Liver Cirrhosis in Children.” The presentation was prepared by Berdieva F.O., a physician of the highest category in pediatric gastroenterology, and Sharipov Z.Kh., the head of the department.

The conference provided a comprehensive overview of the etiopathogenesis and primary causes of liver cirrhosis in children, alongside a detailed discussion of the modern classification, clinical and laboratory manifestations, instrumental diagnostics, treatment approaches, prognosis, preventive measures, and outcomes of this condition in pediatric patients. The presentation, enhanced by slides, illustrated various forms of hepatitis, which are leading contributors to pediatric liver cirrhosis. Clinical characteristics of the disease were demonstrated through case studies of two patients.

U.M., an 8-month-old patient, was diagnosed with a congenital hepatic anomaly, hepatic fibrosis (F-2, F-3), with a suspicion of Gaucher’s disease. Additionally, the patient presented with septicopoiesis and a chronic nutritional disorder classified as TC-3.

M.M., aged 3 years and 4 months, was diagnosed with a lysosomal storage disorder, specifically Gaucher’s disease type I, in its heterozygous form. The patient exhibited hepatosplenomegaly, portal hypertension, thrombocytopenia, and moderate anemia.

In both cases, the clinical manifestations of the disease were confirmed through laboratory and instrumental diagnostic methods, revealing characteristic changes indicative of liver cirrhosis, alongside comorbid conditions that exacerbate the primary pathology.

In conclusion, given the significance of this pathology in pediatric patients, numerous questions were raised and thoroughly addressed. An active discussion followed, focusing on the etiology, treatment, and prognosis of pediatric liver cirrhosis.
