PAKISTAN AND ITS CULTURE

At the department of propaedeutics of children diseases of SEI «ATSMU» 11.04.24 year an open lesson was held on the topic of «Pakistan and it’s culture» with the participation of teachers of the department and students of the 78th group of the 3rd year foreign students (teacher – Kasymova P.V). Presentation was prepared by students of group 78th: Hussain Sheraz.

The ways of life including arts, beliefs and institutions of a population that are passed down from generation to generation. Culture is the way of life for an entire society. It includes codes of manners, dress, language, religion, rituals and art.

The culture of Pakistan is based in the Indo-Persian cultural matrix that constitutes a foundation plank of South Asian Muslim identity. 

Geographical and Historical Overview

Ø Pakistan is located in South Asia, bordered by India, Afghanistan, Iran, and China.

Ø Its history dates back to ancient civilizations including the Indus Valley Civilization.

Ø Pakistan has been influenced by various conquerors, traders, and settlers, leading to a rich amalgamation of cultures.

Language and literature

Ø          Urdu is the national language of Pakistan and English as the official language.

Ø Pakistan is also home to several regional languages, such as Punjabi, Sindhi, Pashto, Balochi, Shina etc.

Ø Pakistani literature is renowned for its poetry, with luminaries like Allama Iqbal and Faiz Ahmed Faiz leaving an indelible mark on Urdu poetry.   

    

FOODS AND CUISINE

Ø          Pakistani cuisine is a delicious blend of flavors and spices, influenced by various regions and cultures.

Ø Staple foods include rice, bread (such as naan and roti), lentils, and meats like chicken, beef, and mutton.

Ø Some popular dishes include biryani, kebabs, nihari, and karahi.

Ø National dish of Pakistan is Nihari.


Traditional Attire and Dress

Ø          Traditional Pakistani attire varies across regions and ethnic groups.

Ø The Shalwar kameez, Achkan, Sherwani and Kurta shalwar Kameez are the national dresses of Pakistan and are worn by men and women in all five provinces of Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan in the country and in Azad Kashmir.

      

 

Art and Handicrafts

Ø Pakistani artisans are renowned for their exquisite craftsmanship in various fields, including pottery, embroidery, weaving, and metalwork.

Ø Multan, Lahore, and Karachi are famous for their intricate handicrafts.

 

FESTIVALS OF PAKISTAN

Ø Pakistan hosts a myriad of festivals and celebrations throughout the year, reflecting its religious and cultural diversity.

Ø Eid ul-Fitr and Eid ul-Adha are celebrated with great fervor by Muslims across the country.

Ø Other regional festivals are also celebrated like Shandur Polo, Mela Cheragan, Basant, Lok Mela, Kalash.

Music and Dance

Ø Pakistani music is a blend of classical, folk, and modern influences.

Ø Traditional instruments such as the tabla, sitar, flute and harmonium are commonly used in classical and folk music.

Ø Pakistani pop music has gained international acclaim, with artists like Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Abida Parveen achieving global recognition.

Ø Bhangra(Punjabi) and Khattak(Pashtuns) are the traditional dances of Pakistan with other regional communities have different types of dances.
