      Victory Day is celebrated almost throughout the CIS: in Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, as well as in other neighboring countries. Every year events dedicated to this day are held in different parts of the world.

Victory Day on May 9 - the history of the holiday from its creation to the present day. What the first Victory Day was remembered by, what changes have occurred since then. What traditions of celebrating the Great Victory remained today and what new brought to this holiday our generation.

After the victory of the Soviet Union in World War II, which for our people became the Great Patriotic War, Victory Day on May 9 is the most desired and at the same time the most ambiguous holiday. As the song of the same name says, "it is a holiday with tears in its eyes". It cannot be otherwise. During the four years of war the Soviet people lost more than 20 million people. And this is only confirmed data. Now many sources claim that in fact the dead were over 40 million. It cannot be said that the war has remained in the distant past.

The remains of soldiers who died on the battlefield, weapons, shell fragments or even unexploded mines are still found here and there. The wound inflicted by fascist invaders on our country is still bleeding. As the whole country rallied to fight the enemy in those harsh years, so now Victory Day is celebrated not as an ordinary May holiday. For our people it is the greatest holiday with many meanings.

It is a day of remembrance of the fallen. It is an honor to the living heroes. It is a jubilation of the liberated people. It is an eternal reminder to the young of the cost of the Great Victory.
