CHAIRMANSHIP OF THE REPUBLIC OF TAJIKISTAN AT THE UNITED NATIONS WATER CONFERENCE

CHAIRMANSHIP OF THE REPUBLIC OF TAJIKISTAN AT THE UNITED NATIONS WATER CONFERENCE

In the period from March 22 to 24 in New York with participation of more than 1200 stakeholders representing all countries of the world the UN Conference on Water Problems was held, where the Founder of peace and national unity, President of the Republic of Tajikistan His excellency Emomali Rahmon was elected as the Chairman of this Conference.

It should be noted that such recognition of the world community has a reason, because it is Emomali Rahmon who is the initiator and permanent leader of the world community movement on water supply problems of the planet.

The very fact that the leader of the country, which has no problems with water resources and possesses the richest water reserves, raises the issue of solving water problems, proves that the President of Tajikistan looks into the future in terms of water supply. Glaciers, rivers and lakes form the basis of Tajikistan's water resources.

It should be noted that the initiative of the President of Tajikistan on water resources occupies a key position in the implementation of UN programs on sustainable development. Thanks to the initiative of the Leader of the Nation on the water resources program, the main directions of financing projects, conservation and rational use of water resources, implementation of energy projects, green climate and other directions have been outlined.

But along with support of Tajikistan's policy in addressing issues of global nature, there are forces that misinform the population and especially the youth through distortion of information on the Internet.

Experience shows that giving the media a platform to the representatives of lies is contrary to the principles of freedom of speech, and the people of Tajikistan have seen with their own eyes that the information they disseminate has nothing to do with reality.

The history of political activity of the President of Tajikistan in the international arena shows that the beginning of his initiatives to solve water problems was laid at the very beginning of his political leadership of the country.

On the initiative of Tajikistan, 2003 was declared the International Year of Freshwater by the UN. The period 2005-2015 was also declared the International Decade of Action "Water for Life" at the UN level at the initiative of Tajikistan.

As well as the Resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly six years ago proclaiming 2018-2028 as the Decade of Action "Water for Sustainable Development". In the process of these initiatives, organizational structures for project management on water issues were established.

In particular, in 2003, the Regional Center for Hydrology was established and the Agreement between CA states on exchange of hydrometeorological information received, processed and transmitted with the help of equipment supplied by the United States Agency for International Development and the Swiss Aral Sea Mission was developed. Expeditionary work was carried out to study glaciers and mountain lakes in Tajikistan. Also within the framework of these programs, the Asia-Pacific Water Forum (APWF) started its work, the main goal of which was to create conditions for sustainable water resources management to achieve the Millennium Development Goals in the region. The Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea and the Global Water Partnership for Central Asia and Caucasus were recognized as Coordinators of the Asia-Pacific Water Forum (APWF) in the Central Asian region.

Dear Emomali Rahmon is not only the initiator of many global and regional programs, but also an active politician of international level, whose contribution to the implementation of many regional and global projects is recognized by the whole community around the world.

Thus, in the period from the early 90s to the present day, the efforts of the President of Tajikistan have accomplished a tremendous amount of work on the implementation of projects on sustainable use of water resources. Therefore, presidency of our country at the UN Conference is a form of recognition by the world community of the work done in this direction.

Tajikistan will continue the policy of joint solution of water problems with the countries of the region, which plays a key role in strengthening friendship and mutual understanding between the countries of Central Asia and the whole world.
