CENTENNIAL ANNIVERSARY OF DUSHANBE CITY

CENTENNIAL ANNIVERSARY OF DUSHANBE CITY

"It is gratifying that during the years of independence the image of the dear capital of the Tajik state - Dushanbe - has radically changed, and as a result of the universal labor and patriotic attitude of the residents, generous entrepreneurs and businessmen, works on improvement and beautification of the city are gaining new strength"

Emomali Rahmon

The first written mention of Dushanbe village is found at the end of 1676. It emerged at the crossroads, and on Mondays a large bazaar was organized here, hence the name (Dushanbe - "Monday"). It had more than 500 courtyards and about 8,000 inhabitants. In 1826, the present capital of Tajikistan was called Dushanbe-Kurgan. The first map showing the city of Dushanbe was made in 1875. At that time the city was a fortress on a steep bank with 10,000 inhabitants. Dushanbe was part of the Bukhara Emirate. In 1920, the last Emir of Bukhara - Seyid Alim-Khan fled to this city, but in February of the following year he fled from here as well due to the advance of the Red Army. On July 14, 1922 the city was proclaimed the capital of the Tajik Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic within the UZSSR, which in 1929 was separated into the Tajik Soviet Socialist Republic. In 1924-1929 the city was officially called Dushanbe, and in 1929 Dushanbe was renamed Stalinabad - "Stalin's city". In 1961, the city was returned to its original name, but in the spelling changed to Dushanbe.

Tajikistan celebrates Capital Day. This date is celebrated annually every third Saturday in April. Songs and dances are held on this day in all parks and squares of Dushanbe. Craft exhibitions and sporting events, including the Dushanbe Half Marathon, fairs, concerts and other cultural events are organized in the city. It is also the traditional day to summarize the results of professional competitions among medical and education professionals.

Dushanbe is a mirror of the history and life of the Tajik people and the Tajik state. Since the first days of independence, the respected Head of State Emomali Rahmon has paid attention to the development and progress of the capital of independent Tajikistan as an administrative, political and cultural center.

"The construction of objects and buildings in compliance with high national and modern architectural art, reconstruction and renovation of streets, squares and parks give the city a unique beauty"

Emomali Rahmon

The main attractions of the city are the National Museum of Tajikistan, National Museum of Antiquities, Ismaili Center, Dushanbe Flagpole, Unity Palace, Rudaki Avenue, Dushanbe Zoo and others. Modern, luxurious buildings, construction of industrial enterprises, large cultural centers still make up the beauty of the capital. In recent years, Dushanbe has completely changed its image and turned into a city of dreams. In Central Asia and beyond, Dushanbe is presented as the youngest, most beautiful, peaceful city. It has become the center of international congresses, symposiums, conferences and meetings. Reconstruction, beautification and progress of our dear capital city testify to the daily efforts and achievements of the Mayor of Dushanbe, respected Rustami Emomali. In 2021, the capital of Tajikistan was declared the cultural capital of the Commonwealth of Independent States. Dushanbe is rightly called the city of youth, because this city was built by the hands of the noble and honorable youth of the Tajik people. The flowering boulevards and avenues of our city make us happy. Citizens constantly strive for the development of the city and its cleanliness. Every year, to make the streets and avenues of the city even more beautiful and attractive, ornamental plants and trees, as well as bright flowers are planted in spring. Thanks to unity and peace, Dushanbe is changing day by day. Beautiful modern buildings add freshness to the beautiful beauty of today's city.

"The people of Dushanbe will turn their city into one of the most beautiful and developed cities, and prove that Tajiks have been famous for their traditions of urban planning and urban living since ancient times. May our dear capital, the political, scientific and cultural center of the country, become even more beautiful and comfortable thanks to independence. May independent Tajikistan and Dushanbe city, as a pillar of peace and stability, become the pride of all Tajik people".
